If you like your curly hair, you can thank, your genes, your shampoo, your climate and your hairdresser. But the fact is they’re all bit players.
When we touch our skin, it feels very smooth, but when we observe it under a microscope, it looks like this -
A notched mountain range with large holes sprouting hair.
These pits are known as follicles, and they're responsible for making hair straight or curly. Straight hair are produced by round follicle, wavy hair are produced by an oval-shaped follicle and very curly hair are produced by a flat follicle.
The texture of hair chiefly relies upon the shape of the hair that can be observed in cross-section under a microscope. The shape of straight hair is round, that of wavy hair is oval and that of curly hair is flat.
The number of hairs depends upon your being brunette or blond. Blonds have around 1,40,000 hairs on their head and redheads have an average 90,000 hairs and the people who have black or brown color, they have about 1,10,000 hairs. Most of the hair follicles have oil glands, which are also known as Sebaceous glands. This gland emits oil into the follicle and this oil strengthens hair, lubricates it and makes it soft.
